The Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI) is a UK Government support mechanism for the supply of renewable heat.

An uplift is paid on each unit of heat supplied from a renewable resource and the size of the uplift is dependent on the technology. There are two phases of introduction of the RHI – commercial and then domestic.  Technologies covered include:

  • Biomass boilers

  • Anaerobic digestion

  • Solar thermal

  • Geothermal heat

  • Air source heat pumps

  • Ground source heat pumps
